Facial Yoga Exercises for Women over 40

If you’re looking to wipe out the age from your face without opting for costly plastic surgery or potentially dangerous treatments such as Botox, face yoga is the anti-aging treatment you’ve been looking for. These days many people are practising the face yoga as an anti aging treatment.

It has same benefits as yoga gives to your body i.e. relaxing and toning of muscles but it does the same for face muscles. Face yoga points the muscles of the face that hold tension, particularly the jaw, brow, and forehead.

Facial yoga refreshes your face within minutes and brightens it up. It also relaxes the muscles and nerve connections. Women in their 40s or above it should start face yoga exercises as it helps in controlling the wrinkles and lines on your face.

If you do the following exercises in routine, you may be able to neutralize the effects of all the facial expressions we make on a daily basis that can put in to the formation of wrinkles.

Around the eye:

Hold your thumb upright and close your fists. Now close your eyes and start moving left thumb on left eye and right thumb on right eye. Move the thumb gently by applying little pressure to make circles around the eye. Do this exercise for 2–3 minutes. It will cure the dark circles around the eyes and will relax the muscles around the eyes.

Surprise me:

Make your face expression like someone surprises you. Widen your eyes such that white portion your eyes are exposed to much instinct. Then squeeze your eyes tightly. Again open them wide and squeeze again. Repeat this exercise for 10–15 times and then close your eyes and relax. By doing this facial exercise you are actually smoothing your wrinkled brow. It will tone up the muscles around eyes and forehead. This exercise also helps in improving eyesight.

Puff out your cheeks:

This facial exercise is quite easy to perform. Just breathe in through your mouth and enter as much air as you can inside your mouth. Puff up your cheeks as much as possible. Hold the air inside for 10–15 second and then release it through your mouth again. Repeat this process for 10–15 times. This exercise will tone and plump your skin. It will strengthen your cheeks muscles and will prevent them to become thin and look hollow.

Eye lift:

Lift one arm straight up and press your shoulders down. Drop down that arm over your head so that you can put your fingertips on your temple.Gently press with your fingertips to lift your face up and back, and then drop your head over to your shoulder, keeping your chest open. Hold this pose while you slowly breathe out through your mouth. To take the pose a step further, reach your other arm out at a 45-degree angle and when you exhale stick your tongue out down towards the ground. Do the other side and repeat the same. Benefits include lifting of drooping eyelids and toning of sagging skin around your eyes.

The Giraffe:

Looking straight ahead, place the finger tips at the bottom of the neck and lightly stroke the skin downwards with the head tilted back. Bring the head back down to the chest and repeat twice more. Finally, jut the lower lip out as far as possible to pull the corners of the mouth down and place finger tips on the collarbone with the chin pointed upwards. Hold for four deep breaths. This exercise erases the lines from neck and firms the sagging skin from neck.

Sunken Cheeks:

Suck in your cheek and feel the muscles on either side of your mouth sink in. Hold this position for 15 seconds. Repeat this exercise for some other 10 times. Also you can use a straw whenever you are drinking any liquid. Sipping liquid with straw will automatically sink in your cheeks. This exercise will reduce the fat from your cheeks and emphasize cheek bones. Practising this exercise regularly will help you get a sculpted face

Chin Up:

Put both of your hands below the chin and hold it up. With the help of your thumbs start pressing the chin from lower side while moving upwards. Do this for exercise for 5–7 minutes. This exercise will help you to tone up your chin muscles and get it in desired shape.

Brow smoothening:

Place both hands on the forehead facing inwards and spread all of the fingers on forehead. Gently sweep the fingers outwards across the forehead, applying little pressure to tighten the skin. Relax and repeat 10 times. This exercise will help you to get rid of horizontal forehead lines.

Smile smoother:

Hide the teeth with the lips to make an ‘O’ shape with the mouth. Smile widely while keeping the teeth hidden and repeat five times. Next, hold the smile shape while placing one index finger on the chin. Then start to move the jaw up and down as the head tilts gently back. Relax and repeat twice more. This exercise is beneficial for cheek lines and sagging skin.

Ear pulling: Hold the ear lobes with your fingers and pull them down. Pull them for 30 seconds and then pull them up for 30 seconds again. You can also rotate the ear lobes clockwise and anticlockwise. This exercise releases tension from facial muscles.
